Art Advice

There are many different ways in which you can create a work of art. Through different mediums such as paints, crayons, markers, pastels or even just pencil, it really does not matter. When creating your art, no matter what the medium, remember to have fun. The last thing you want to do is stress over a project that is supposed to make you relax. Sometimes it can be frustrating that something is not turning out the way you planned but that does not mean you will not end up with something you do not love. Here are some tips that can help you enjoy creating art:

I. EXPERIMENT!

Experimenting with different materials allows for you to get a feel of what you can do with it. Do not be afraid to try new things! Art is about creating and discovering yourself and by trying different mediums. Do you know what medium was used for this piece?

butterflies

This is a painting of butterflies that has been composed by acrylic paint. The acrylic paint allows for smooth patterns and motion of the piece. It allows for brush strokes to help create depth, shadow and highlights of the subjects. The purpose of this piece was to highlight the features of the butterflies and their beautiful wings. You would never guess that this flower was actually green before it was yellow? Can you tell? That is how forgiving acrylic paint is! It drys super fast and you can pain right over it when you make a mistake.

II. BE MESSY!

I would consider myself a perfectionist when it comes to my art. If a line is not straight or I missed a spot I will keep working on a piece until I feel it is exactly the way I want it. Over the years I have discovered that being neat and having everything where it should be is sometimes boring. This piece below was one of the messiest pieces I have composed. Why? This piece is all made of tissue paper. Yes, I ripped up tissue paper and kept on layering it with glue. It was a lot of fun ripping up paper into odd shapes and pasting them down. Tissue paper is a medium I recommend everyone to try.

III. DO WHAT YOU WANT!

No one should be telling you what to make or how to make it. When you are creating art, you are doing it for you! Have your pieces focused on your interests and something that you will enjoy to create. Art is very subjective and there is no right or wrong way in creating something. For instance, I enjoy drawing animals and that has been an area that have many pieces of and yet they are all very different. If you like any particular subject you can create as many pieces as you want and keep making it your own by using different mediums, canvases, and colors.

IV. BE PERFECTLY IMPERFECT!

Art is not about perfection it is about being creative and expressive. There is no right or wrong way when it comes to creating art. Try not to become frustrated when you are creating a piece because it defeats the purpose of relaxing and having fun. If you do become frustrated there are a few things you can try: 1) try looking at the frustration in a different way, see if you can use what is frustrating you as part of the piece, 2) walk away and take a break, sometimes you need to take a break and try again later, 3) if there is no way of ameliorating the situation sometimes it is best to just start fresh!
